White Poplar Tree | Populus alba
- A fast growing, wide-spreading deciduous tree with attractive lobed leaves up to 12cm long
- The foliage is glossy dark green on top and fluffy white underneath – this creates a lovely shimmering effect when the wind blows
- Ornamental bark is very smooth and bright white when young, becoming darker and more furrowed as it matures
- Both male and female trees develop catkins in early spring. In female trees, the catkins are followed by capsules which split to release clouds of feathery seeds
- Grow as a feature tree in a lawn or in groups as a windbreak
- Grows up to 24m tall but can be pruned to fit any garden
