- Zinnia – easy to grow and long flowering, zinnias come in a wide array of happy hues, and can act as a sacrificial crop (or trap crop) for pests like Japanese beetles.
- Tagetes – also known as American marigolds, the roots of these plants secrete a chemical called “alpha-terthienyl” which is known to reduce the quantities of harmful nematodes, bacteria, insects and fungi.
- Cosmos – with bright, daisy-like flowers, cosmos make a wonderful addition to any garden. What’s more, they’ll draw more pollinators (like bees and butterflies) to your garden, which in turn can help improve fruit and vegetable yields. Score.
