‘Sultane’ Fig Tree
- In our view, no sunny garden is complete without a proudly growing fig tree, and ‘Sultane’ is a variety that has every reason to be proud…
- As fig varieties go, this is one of the more prolific croppers out there, and can be reliably called upon to produce generous quantities of deliciously sweet, purplish-brown figs with ruby-coloured flesh
- This fig tree can sometimes produce two crops; the main crop (which is also the one you can – and should – rely upon year after year) occurs in the autumn. However, earlier on in the year, it might also produce what’s known as a ‘breba’ crop if the weather conditions are particularly warm and favourable
- Easy to grow and relatively cold hardy, this medium-sized tree (growing to around 5m) is a lovely option for those wanting to train a fruit tree as a fan up a south-facing wall
- The deeply-lobed foliage and moreish fruits are highly evocative, instantly transporting you to a sun-soaked Mediterranean hillside (without the risk of lost luggage!)
