Mare’s Tail | Hippuris vulgaris | Oxygenating
- An evergreen oxygenating plant which stands up out of the water or floats if submerged, Hippuris stems are stout, hollow and covered in fluffy leaves like a brush
- Small white flowers appear in early summer amongst the leaves, almost invisible to the naked eye
- A low growing hardy perennial which is virtually maintenance free
- This is a UK native species which is beneficial to pond wildlife, providing shelter, shade and a place to perch for dragonflies
- Can grow in water up to a depth of 3m and can form large colonies
