Chocolate Vine | Akebia quinata
- An unusual climbing plant with beautiful purple-brown flowers that have a spicy fragrance with a hint of vanilla and chocolate and attractive, bright green, three-lobed leaves with a purple tinge in winter
- In warm summers it can produce large pink oval fruits – but only if you have two Akebia plants that can cross-pollinate
- Flowers from March to May
- A vigorous semi-evergreen twining climber which is ideal for training on a wall or pergola
- Low maintenance – Akebia is pest and disease resistant and needs no feeding or pruning
- Please Note: Our climbers are pruned back each winter, and some during the summer, so you may find at certain times of year they do not cover the whole 90cm cane. This is intentional to ensure the best growth when you plant out
